So I'm slightly concerned, and I don't know how much foundation I have for being concerned.
The last time I had sex was late May. Exams, the end of term, and the fact that I live miles away from my boyfriend when I'm not at university precluded anything after that. The following month I took norethisterone to delay my period by a few days during my exams, though I wasn't tracking them exactly which was perhaps silly of me (I gather norethisterone for this purpose isn't particularly common practise in the USA but it seems to be pretty much par for the course in the UK where I live). I bled normally, though I know that with norethisterone this is a withdrawal bleed and not a 'real' period.
When we had sex, I used a diaphragm, he wore a condom, and my guess is that we should have been pretty safe. However. This month I noticed quite a while before my period was due that I had very sore breasts and was very bloated, much much earlier than I normally would be. Being a paranoid sort of person, I started worrying. My period was then about a week late, which in itself was worrying, and I was relieved when it finally came (and, if it makes a difference, the PMS symptoms disappeared along with its arrival).
Except, far from being the heavy week-long fun-fest it usually is, it was very, very light, brown, and lasted only about three days. So I'm still not satisfied. I've taken two tests, both negative, and potentially-nearly-three-months-in I'd imagine the hormone levels would be quite high. Still not happy, but I don't know if I'm being incredibly stupid.
My other concern is that I have very suddenly become anaemic without any apparent cause some time in the last two months, nobody can figure out why, and I can't help but worry if pregnancy could be a possible cause.
What do I do next? Do I assume it's fine and leave it? Can norethisterone cause the following period to be *lighter* rather than heavier? What more steps can I take to rule out pregnancy if I don't trust the test? Am I being silly?
